Soviet Super-Charger: The Tu-144

The Cold-War race for Supersonic passenger airliners was financially ruinous but full of potential prestige. The Tu-144 was both a magnificent achievement and a total disaster that pushed Soviet technology to its limit and beyond. It was never a viable airliner and arguably never had a realistic role either. But what a wonderful looking aircraft it was nonetheless.

I haven't heard anything further from the new owners of MAF so I'm not back here fully but I thought you might appreciate this avhistory blog anyway.

Fantastic read Richard as always! I've always loved the Tu-144 - rugged, brutal, and a looker! More Valkyrie than Concorde! The Herpa models do them good but yeah imagine if it comes with a movable nose and canards! Hopefully soon! Meanwhile these two models grace my Aeroflot/Soviet collection too.
