With the return of the Il-86 mould, today I start a mini look at the type with an avhistory piece on the development and service of the Soviet Union's first widebody. By Western standards the Il-86 was a serious failure but it provided safe and reliable high-capacity transport options for Aeroflot and later independent carriers into the 2000s.

Amazing article. Back in the day Aeroflot also operated the IL-86 from Moskva to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh with additional stops at Dubai and New Delhi

I think that post about the Il-86 and Il-96 was a joke that Simple Flying took too literally. There won't be anymore of these quads. Tu-214s I can see though.
