Show Your Latest 1:400 Purchase

Another brand new arrival today. Lots came this week. This one via waffle (it arrived in one piece!!). This one is a 2009 GeminiJets release. It’s another one for my eventual complete America West 757 fleet. I have 4 total left to get now! (Diamondbacks, Suns, AC old colors, NG new colors)

Crazy how this 757 looks far better than the ones GJ produces today... The nose section is almost perfect on these older releases which cannot be said about the most recent Delta Widget our United Saul Bass. Beautiful model!

Honestly I have to agree. I have always subconsciously wished they used the same casting and just updated the gears to modern standards and add some antennas if they really wanted to. The one and only plus on these old gemini 757s is how indestructible they are. I played rough with this mould back when i was a young teenager and they still hold up well to this day. I can’t say the same about these newer models with the delicate gears and extra bits😅

Well, it's interesting because I have one of the first editions that GJ made on their new 757 casting with Delta and that one they did a really good job on but in my opinion have done a pretty mediocre job on every 757 in 1:400 scale thereafter.. Not sure why two models on the same mold can end up looking so different.

This is Item #GJDAL1692 from 2018 on the new mold which looks overall fantastic, but I couldn't swallow buying the most recent Delta widget due to how smudged the nose looks and the nose is everything on a 757.

The cockpit printing is far too high on the newer releases.

the nose cone on that current livery 757 🙃 which is probably throwing that off for me...the nose shape itself may be just a touch too pointy but im no expert.

Cockpit window placement on that Delta widget is simply awful. Sadly this would ruin the model for me.
The old America West from 2009 looks much better indeed! The only drawback, in my opinion, are the awfully chunky gears

Yeah I agree and didn’t totally understand the massive fan fare it received when NG’s was superb although hard to find. It wasn’t worth paying for in my opinion.

It’s the cockpit window printing. Same goes with their 1:200 757s…everything is beautiful until you get to the cockpit windows which are horrendously slanted. Not sure how you can invest so much time and effort into a model and f it up with something so easily correctable.

If you buy 5 copies of this same Delta 757 they will all have variations in the nose cone shape. Gemini’s moulds don’t seem to be consistent. Some of their 767 and A320s have flattened nose cone tips lol

Gemini Porter DHC-8-400 C-GKQG, NG Delta MD-88 N999DN, Panda Qantas B737-400 VH-TJO, and a 3D printed F-16 (from @Y3D_SLC on instagram) all joined the collection recently. The DHC8 wing joint isn’t as smooth as it should be, but still glad to have a turboprop in the collection, and after purchasing it I had a chance to fly the 1:1 version. I’ll comment more about the F-16 in the military area. Overall I’m really happy with these (I was looking for a 734 in the older Qantas livery, but an opportunity to pick up this 734 came up).316AAC0A-8BE6-4999-8B6A-7F40C3E5EF0B.jpegFE527E52-7537-4FA5-BC1E-D9C00304A752.jpeg309263D1-40B6-4C37-BD4C-835F6F299CF1.jpeg32F6E4FE-FC3D-4499-8F0C-FF1ED64B99EF.jpeg407B0D28-6B27-4D6E-BAF8-2CB8EC6991AC.jpeg

Not quite the recent NG Tristar yet, but a PSA did make its way into my collection yesterday! This is the US Airways A319 PSA retro, a September of 2006 GeminiJets release. I’ve had the Aeroclassics version for a handful of months or years now, but I have every single other Gemini special livery A319 in my collection. This was the last one to “complete the set” for me. This also means i’m just 3 A319s short for finishing out the full legacy US fleet as well. One navy, one AA, and the AA piedmont left to go!

Speaking of having both the Gemini and Aeroclassics versions, let’s take a quick look at both plus the real thing for comparison!

Gemini - September 2009 release
Aero - June 2021 release
Both have no antennas, gemini is old static gear, aero has their standard rolling gear

AeroClassics - left, GeminiJets - right

Gemini is a much better value and more accurate to the real thing imo, hence why i’ve decided to collect all the gemini special A319s I can instead of the latter versions that have been recently made.

HX’s Pan Am 747-200 (N732PA). Actually looks like a 747 and there aren’t any major livery screwups, so I’m perfectly happy with it.

(One of) the first and (one of) the last.

Phoenix’s Singapore A340-500 (9V-SGC). Probably the best of its kind we’ll ever get, since NG would rather carpet bomb their own factory than release another SQ.
IMG_9222.jpeg

NG’s KAL A350-900 (HL8597). As is tradition, one major error (wing reg location) negates all the upsides.
