Show Your Latest 1:400 Purchase

It’s not bad for 2005! Now i’d expect maybe some rolling gear or slightly better mould shaping but it looks really good. I almost wish I wasn’t gifting it lol. I’ll have to get more military stuff in the future…speaking of, I got a tanker on the way🤗

Heres the new pickup that arrived today! A KC-135 tanker passed here in Pittsburgh. I haven’t caught this one IRL yet but one day soon! A geminiJets 2023 release commissioned by the ANG themselves from my “insider info” ;)

Underside Detail, the best part on every tanker in my opinion (a shame you don’t see it much):

Trip to RIAT at RAF Fairford this weekend meant a bargain was bought for £20 and to help me charter the history of British Airways, I bought a Phoenix A320 in the Caledonian livery with the reg G-BVYB. BA bought Caledonian in 1987 (I think off the top of my head). A brilliant visit to the Speedbird Museum last week at Waterside also helped learn more about BA. A museum well worth visiting if at London Heathrow!

Just got another HX's 747-400, China Airlines B-18206 with SkyTeam livery.

After I received this, I suddenky realized my 747 collections could now included all major engine (and nacelles) variants on 747s now, so I took this photo:

Very cool!!!
Still missing a B747-400 with GE CF6-80 engine (I see you have the B742s with CF6-50s though).

And too bad we don't have the PW JT9D-70A in scale 1:400!

I did just brought a B-18211 but it's DW/Jet-X and I'm concerned about the details of the nacelles.

HX have both B-18206 and 18211 available with each fitting with corresponding engines. I choose the B-18206 eventually because one of my Taiwanese friend have flown on 2nd floor of that plane when she was young and she said that brings her some memories. Maybe I should ordered B-18211 too 🤣

Edit: hey wait... I have DW's YBL-1 too, and that's a 747-400F! Maybe it's time to remake the photo soon;)

Oh, awesome!!!
The real YAL 1A had CF6-80 engines but it seems Dragon used the PW4000s for the model :cautious:
Anyways, very cool selection of Jumbos. Congrats!

About your China Airlines Skyteam, it's indeed CF6-80, I totally missed that. I guess I thought they were PWs at first glance.
Anyways, very cool selection of Jumbos. Congrats!
I checked it again, indeed they're PW4000.

Also I don't know why DW just completely ignored YAL-1's targeting laser pod on the roof:

But good news is, I also have DW's 747LCF kit, with N249BA both before and after the retrofit (although the retrofitted 747LCF model is pretty bad). And it have the right engines!

Sadly the condition of the painting is not that good, you can see small blisters.

Also, HX's B-18206 is fitting with PW4056s and B-18211 is fitting with CF6-80s. You can clearly see the different of nacelles in these photo:

A strange adding of my collection, (could be) Jet-X Eva Air B747-45E B-16463 (don't ask me what happened on the NLG) :

I came across this on Taobao with fairly cheap price at ¥129, simply labelled as "old remaining export product" and packed in a blank box. Even from the blurry photo send by sellers (and they refused to take more detailed even after I asked) I can tell it's highly possible a DW mould, and the stand is also looked like Jet-X/DW. I searched the registry number on Google and found Jet-X have once released this plane, so I though"ok that must be it".

Still I found it strange when I finally received this. What I surprisingly found is, all plastic parts on DW mould (wings, stab, tailfins, etc.) are all swapped with metal parts that clearly being casting from the same mould. I didn't remember Jet-X have done this to any of their DW mould models. The once replaceable gears are also fixed in place - now you know where my NLG doors have gone. I unfortunately broke them when I tried to pull out the NLG. (also the NLG strunt itself, but I managed to glued it back.)

Also, it's definitely an old model - like many DW models that are aged and in relative poor quality, the large area of painting on the belly is cracked, and clearly visible, thought not that visible in photo.

But alas, ¥129. I'm still satisfied with that. Maybe that's another rare and odd model in my interesting collection, just like my mislabelled Gemini Jets "YCV-128C" DC-8.

A couple of arrivals over here on my end. Keeping in line with the 747 trend of recent, I received my Pan An 747-100 from HX Models. I went for N747PA, Clipper Juan Trippe, in flaps down configuration. Lovely model, I look forward to seeing what other 747's we shall see from HX Models. I am more partial to the 1976 Pan Am scheme, which was not made by HX, however this shall fill the important gap of a Pan Am 747 until NG or HX tackle the 1976 Pan Am scheme.

Next, my preorder for the NG IranAir 747SP EP-IAA finally arrived, after half a year of waiting. Perhaps my favorite new model acquisition of the year. She shall serve as the flagship for my Iranian fleet until a proper Iran Air 747-100 is made.

Lastly, a lucky eBay find. I present my copy of the NG Models Aeroflot A320neo VP-BRG. A model on my radar for over 2 years, I was given a seller offer too good to turn down. The angle of the front landing gear is rather much but it does not bother me too much. It gives me a modern Aeroflot narrowbody for the Russian collection.

Overall I am very glad to have welcomed these models to my collection. Recent releases have not been too promising for my collecting criteria, so perhaps I will be giving my wallet a well earned break for a few months.

If you know me, you know these new AC UAL stretch 8’s were a must buy. I’ll admit that AC’s quality control seems to be slipping a bit but these are beautiful models nonetheless and I’m happy to add them to the fleet. The experimental livery with the polished belly is particularly nice IMO

This could be NetModels. The few times I've seen their 747s they look like metal versions of the Dragon mould - sometimes with high wings

A big thanks to my friend Adrian who was at RIAT last weekend. Aviation Retail Direct sound like they had a box of Aeroclassics all for £20 each and he grabbed this pair for me. £20 each is a good price (the Conviasa was only a December release) and certainly massively cheaper than the price stickers that were on the boxes (£46.95 and £52.00 respectively). Frankly, with some of the QC issues nowadays (and both of these do have some) they aren't worth those original prices, which are more than any major 400 scale brand in the UK. Good adds to the collection anyway of models I'd passed on originally.
