[PHOTOSHOOT] 2006 BigBird Qantas Boeing 747-238B VH-EBB: A Faded Roo

It has been a while since I last shared a photoshoot due to my busy schedules. New models arrived at both locations but I wasn’t able to share. During my “holiday” trip back home, I had time to unbox those that were delivered here. One of those is this charming BB400 in the 1971-1984 Roo livery - an acquisition from eBay. The airframe VH-EBB spent roughly 13 years at the Australian carrier and was named 'City of Melbourne'. The model wasn’t in the best condition - faded “Qantas” title and the seller mentioned and captured well on the photos. One point which I didn’t notice well from the photos was the angled slot-in front gear. I tend to collect models despite their not-so “mint” appearance. So here are some photos of this “unfortunate” model.

What a cool, simple mold!

The model might have been produced in the same batch with the “Boxing Kangaroo” VH-EBM - which Richard had a full post reviewing the model. This is the only two B742 in the Roo scheme with orange cheatline that BB400 made. Both models were equipped with JT9Ds engine - which most of QF 742s had. Some of later-delivered had the RB211s - which is my favorite engine type. Here are both models together. However the nose landing gear was still in its original package and not inserted into the model. A little pity is the belly - which was painted grey rather than being polished with chrome.

I still find these old BB400 747s still holds their own charm although new and modern (but still not perfect) mould is available.
