New Pan Am 747s from HX Models

This hobby would not be where it is today without your work.
Thanks, much appreciated.
I'd love to see some video reviews over the 5 747s

I'm thinking of at least 2 or 3 vids covering different things. This morning I've been working on putting together some of the collateral for the upcoming posts. That includes the detailed mould comparison, which will pit 6 747-100/200s up against each other for the crown. How many of these moulds do you recognise?

Hmmmm, House colour is Patriot models, Pan Am on the left is Dragon, Pan Am on the right is YX models, KLM is Phoenix….? The rest I can’t tell…..

KLM is BigBird Mk.3. You wouldn't catch Richard owning a Phoenix 747.

Air Liberte is Aviation 400, and Virgin is Aeroclassics.

You know I actually do own one - Uni Top but it's really non-standard (wing join and no HF aerials) so I decided to leave it out of the review because we all know how great PHX 747s are :ROFLMAO:

The Virgin's a Gemini actually and the house colours is NG Lite but the rest spot on.

However, the fact that you thought a Big Bird could be a Phoenix proves my point that getting our panties in a wad over 1:400 scale 747s is not worth it.

I still look forward to Richard's mold comparison; it is and interesting topic. I think it is an excellent time to write something about 400 scale 747s. If I find the time, I might put something together myself.

I've been working through the heat today on the unboxing video for the 5 HX Models Pan Am 747-100s and it is almost done - scheduled to drop on Monday. Make sure you're subscribed to the channel as there'll be more content this coming week for them too. Over at the website the detailed 747 mould comparison is already written and will be published next week too - along with a model review.

now that turn table is just a little short of a disco-ball ;)!

I start a week of 747 related posts with the promised unboxing video featuring all 5 of the HX Models Pan Am 747s. Check it out here:

Thank you for that again very interesting video.

But to be honest, in terms of colour and shape of the engine cowlings the engines are the dealbreaker for me.
I really hope HX is going to fix that issue on future models .

Cheers

The electroplating is different to what they've done before. Not sure why they did that. I preferred what they did on the prototype:

Not sure what you mean about the engine cowlings unless you're referring to the inlet rims? They aren't likely to change. That is designed that way on purpose and isn't something they are likely to 'fix'. The rest of the engines are near perfect.

Obviously it is entirely up to you what you buy but there isn't going to be a better 747 than this anytime soon and this mould is streets ahead of every other 747 in the scale.

It's inexplicable why and how so ever often manufacturers - all of them, whether NG or PHX or GJ/JC or AC or now HX, mess with that which really requires no fixing!

I guess they thought it was a good idea, but the very fact they are constantly told to mess with things by people probably isn't always helpful :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. I mean you can't please everyone and there are multiple times where mods to a mould have not improved it to me, but I guess others feel differently

I totally agree with you! Their 747 seems to be way ahead of their competitors. And I would love if they would take a step back and use the engine style they had on the prototype 747 for their future models.

Regarding the shape of the engines, from my perspective the cowling is too much curved on top and it's a bit too long. But maybe I am wrong in this case because it can depend on the subtype of the JT9D engines. Or simply my eyes were playing tricks on me. :ROFLMAO:

N747PA was an iconic airframe that became the symbolic flagship of Pan Am. She was the 2nd 747 built, crash landed, was repaired and ended her career as a restaurant! With HX Models making the aircraft at both ends of its Pan Am career I take a closer look at its history.
