Excuse my ignorance, is it made out of plastic? Does it feel strong like diecast or a bit flimsy? Is it light? I like the weight of diecast in my hand. Do they print each one to order or make a batch and then sell them all?

It’s very light compared to diecast. Small parts can be flimsy but it’s worth it. It’s also much cheaper than Gemini. I believe they also do batches.

These are made in batches just like standard 400 scale models. 3D Design Deck is a Canadian company. The production run of this model was 120. They are not metal at all so are very light but aside from the weight they are now basically as good or better than the equivalent diecast. Certainly this is now a better DHC-8 than the JC Wings/Gemini version both in terms of mould and print.

The added bonus is you can drop these and they don't break!




Horizon Air is undoubtedly one of the great US regionals and kept its identity far longer than most. In the late-90s based its fleet on the Fokker 28 and the DHC-8-100/200 after retiring the Dornier 328 and Metroliners. Models by Aeroclassics and 3D Design Deck.

I have dropped them a few times actually yeah - even from waist height! They just glide to the floor

I had a gentle but big enough bend in a wing on one of my USAir Dash 8s and tried gently bending it back in place with a little heat as well, very brittle and snapped on me. Easy glue fix and they attatched together incredibly well thankfully. They seem really sturdy and not a flimsy “plastic” feeling at all. Doesn’t surprise me they dont break from a fall or two!
