Overview

Legacy Jets is a newer brand to the 400 scale space. Their first two announcements just hit the shelves a week or two back and now we have the next two. These two Embraers, unlike the Avelo and AirTran, are exclusive to Final Approach Collectibles, a smaller retailer from South Carolina in the US. Legacy Jets is using the SQ/HX factories to produce thee models, and have no other affiliation as we know. They boast “Next level precision and unmatched innovation". Lets see how well they hold up to modern standards and compare to what else in on the market.

For this review, ill use the @YesterAirlines scale for consistency and is as follows (I hope thats okay!):
26-30 Perfect
23-25 Decent
20-22 Ordinary
15-19 Poor
1-15 Garbage

MOLD

This will be the second true E175 mold to the market, the first and only other belonging to JC/GeminiJets. Herpa has released E170s in 400 scale and DeAugostini has released a pair of E170s although on what seems to be a much inferior and not particularly relevant mold from both of them. JC/Gemini have been cornering the market on these regional jets for some time and I am excited to see someone else has joined the parade.

The E175 as a whole has two distinct variants. They were originally delivered with the standard vertical winglets but in 2018 new orders were fitted with an upgrade for a more angled design and a just slightly longer wingspan. This new LegacyJets casting features the “long wing” winglets. It is unsure that the older style winglets or even other variants like the E170 or E190 have been developed as well for future releases.

On first glance, the mold seems really decent. I like the overall proportions and not much feels too particularly off. I have a few gripes as I look closer but I do like the final result of these models as a whole. The biggest issue is the nose down stance where the real airplane sits nose up. Perhaps future landing gear height adjustments can at least make it sit perfectly level which would be great.

The nose is well shaped, perhaps a bit more rounded overall but still very well done. The nose gear however is one of my larger issues with this model. The tires and hubs are definitely too large and I wish it was a but smaller. Even if it wasn’t rolling at that point I’d rather have the right size tires than not. The rest of the gear section looks nice and everything except those tires are proportioned well.

Unfortunately the wing seam doesn’t look great, especially on this American Eagle example. There are some large gaps all the way around and it luckily doesn’t detract from the model too much. Thankfully we are at least past the time of the old cradle style wing joins. The wings themselves look just fine but the wingtips are another iffy part of this model for me. They are relatively well shaped but need some small tweaks. The winglets have a large extended point on them, very dramatized compared to the real thing.

Winglet point issue:

The underside as a whole looks really nice. Lots of details that from my limited knowledge and looking at a few photos of the real thing, all seem to be in the right spots. This model features a similar antennae style for the underside longer antenna near the tail section, which is fitted perfectly.

The Engines also look nice as well. Solid core engines which is standard on this small of a model and the detailing is just fine. My only complaint here is that the fin on the outwards and inwards side are too large, a minor and almost silly complaint at the scale.

Engine details:

My biggest concern was the engine placement onto the pylons. Gemini/JC struggle with this a lot and these are pretty good! They aren’t perfect but are miles ahead of what the competition puts out consistently. I approve!

The antennas overall are well shaped but also very oversized. The third one near the tail on top of the fuselage is also missing.

Tail details:

The tail section feel spot on and very nicely shaped to me.

If I could fix two issues with this model, it would be the winglets and nose gear tires. The Antennas also bother me but it’s common among other brands so I cannot ding them too hard there. The Wing seam is another big problem which might be able to be tweaked down the line.

PAINT & LIVERY

Here’s where this review splits into two a little bit. Let’s look at the American Eagle example first.

This model represents ship N213NN. It was delivered to Compass Airlines in 2015 and was transferred to Envoy in 2021. It has been flying under the American Eagle umbrella its whole life. The current American Airlines livery never really sat well with me, it seemed trying to be too modern and removed a lot of charm that the older AA scheme (as well as US Airways’ scheme) had. Nonetheless, it has grown on me a little bit over the years. The silvery-grey body is a nice neutral tone and is complimented by big bold red and blue stripes on the tail.

The model captures the scheme very nicely. All the colors seem incredibly accurate and also vibrant. The silver fuselage is a very nice shade and isn’t too over the top sparkly. I have little to no complaints here.

Next is the United Express, reg N85320. It was delivered to Mesa Airlines in 2015 and been flying under the United Express umbrella since then. This model is in the newer Evo-Blue scheme. Like the American Airlines, it is captured really well. The blue tones are vibrant and and everything is well detailed and printed. My only complaint is with the tail section. The gradient of blue on the upper section of the tail doesn’t blend very well. This white fuselage hides the wing gap a lot better than the darker shade of grey on the American Eagle.

PRINTING & QUALITY CONTROL

DSC_0089.jpg

The cockpit windows are printed nicely but if I could fix one thing it would be to make them a touch taller. The shape is nearly perfect. Getting all the panel lines in a dark black color takes away a bit of the model with how bold they are but I believe that is an HX Models staple. To each their own there. I don’t mind it too much seeing some extra detail.

Each model comes with a model, a cardboard box/plastic cradle, a nicely printed and detailed metal stand, and a collectors card with a number out of 250 units. Mine happens to be 14 and 62. I’m a little unsure why the boxes have the same detailing but both boxes position things differently. Also, one the collectors cards, one has “Embraer E175” while the other just has “Embraer”. Little details I wish could have been standardized a little bit better.

Overall I really like the stand a lot. They fit super snug into the model and I can carry it by the stand with ease and it won’t fall out or turn. The printing on it is nice and it feels super premium. The cradle is also nice. It clicks together through indentations in the middle near the model and lock it all together safely.

SUMMARY

Overall I'd say these are very worthwhile pickups if you have wanted these aircraft for a while. They look really nice and blend in great with airport displays and display cases alike. I am not a huge fan of the price coming in at $55usd, but that comes with retailer exclusives and smaller production runs anyways. At $55/model, it definitely is a hefty price for a regional jet. For me, it is wroth it getting the best E175 in the scale considering I can use these in airport projects for many years to come. I hope these E175s get modded and tweaked to become even better as the releases come. Legacy Jets has entered the 400 scale realm pretty strong with lots of areas to improve in, but compared to certain competition in the markets is excelling greatly on these first releases in my opinion.

My biggest complaints are the noise gear wheels, the winglet tips and the wing seam. Those issues don’t take away from what it’s trying to be too much to ruin it. I purchased these models myself but huge thanks to Brandon from Final Approach Collectibles for the hospitality and being a kind retailer to me the past few months! These are wonderful models that are definitely miles ahead of the competition. Unless JC decides to upgrade the mold or do proper quality control, these new E175s are the best in the scale.

Final Scores:

American Eagle - 25 "Decent"
United Express - 26 "Perfect"

Hold tight while I get out similar GeminiJets examples of both and compare and contrast the different releases. This took me a lot of my Friday night trying to get this out quick but it was a lot of fun and I hope to do more of these in the future. I hope you all enjoyed and stay ready for comparison photos soon!

I mean with all that said it’s fair to say its much better than Gemini Lol

100% and will say that through and through. The price is steep but these are great if you really want them. The comparison photos will tell all...especially with my United Express example from Gemini. Night and day difference between the two. If I were to review Geminis in the same way, they'd probably end up around a score of 20 give or take, most likely take. So big difference there lol

Thank you so much, Jacob for the very detailed and thorough review! It truly means a lot! Also, thank you for the kind words about our small family business! We truly try our hardest to deliver everything collectors want and expect from retailers. :)

Good write up. It’s good to see new options for RJs, and I’m happy they turned out great, but I am hopeful that HX will utilize this mould for their own, non-exclusive releases and sell them at cheaper prices. If they were to rerelease UA and AA examples I’ll consider getting one for hopefully $40 and not $55/$60, but I’m prioritizing airlines I don’t have yet.

Couldn't agree more! Only reason I could justify getting mine was the rarity of AA 175s and my need for AA regional aircraft in general

Nice review! I'll collect my P45 at the door (that gag probably doesn't travel).

You're a bit harsher on the mould than I'd probably be. I suspect I'd have given it a 7 or possibly an 8 even.

It doesn’t unfortunately lol, Thanks though!

Yeah, mostly I counted a -1 for each thing wrong. In hindsight I probably would have landed on a 7 once I slept on it all overnight.

Needless to say, really looking forward to the entire E-jet family from LJ/HX!
This baby E is fabulous. Considering it's tiny size. Need the 190 & 195!
And the E2s!
Always good to have a choice!
