Knuffingen Airport

I recently learned about Miantur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany, and how it has the self-proclaimed biggest model airport in the world. After some research it seems like a more than decent diorama, considering what else they’ve built. I was just curious to hear what y’all think about it, as it’s a pretty interesting subject. Is it realistic?

I mean - I think it is a nice airport of course. If I just know if I had that money and space they had I could probably make something more realistic, but it would be static. The real part that makes it incredible is the movement of everything - that I can’t do.

The layout is amazing, the choice of airplanes maybe not so much realistic but still is an engineering marvel!

Been there twice, a visit there is highly recommended. Not just because of the airport.
Is it realistic? Well, Fuhlsbüttel or Finkenwerder are more realistic but it's the moving stuff that sets it apart from an average static diorama.
Should you go there, make sure to book early.

Like all architectural and engineering designs and creations It Is beautiful and a pleasure for the eyes. It's obvious that a 3D-printed or printed terminal or apron will be much more appealing than handmade ones. That said, I would have done it differently. Given the space, time, and money, I'd do something more imaginative (if fictional) or more distinctive, like Salzburg, Funchal (3D, of course), Skiathos, Corfu, Espargos, Punta Cana, etc., etc. But that's a matter of personal taste.
There are much more eye-catching realizations like Milan MXP Airport, Tortolì and Olbia "Costa Smeralda" airports in 1:500 scale realized some years ago by New Wings Models Group (Luca Granella & Co), Leonardo should remember about them, but i am not able to find their realizations.
Then i remember a spectacular Paris CDG diorama in 1:500 scale: realized in all details with plastic terminal buildings, a real masterpiece. It was presented during a competition in Wings900 many years ago, i remember Paris CDG was the winner, Leo was running with the beautiful Willy White Snowflake International Airport and i was running with Funchal 3D.

Miniatur Wunderland is 1/87 scale. There's no way to realistically model an airport in this scale. Keep in mind that an average 1/500 diorama might take less space than a single A380 on their airport. The Speicherstadt is big, but by far not as big as to allow a realistic scenery a la Funchal etc.

I was referring to airports 12 meters × 12 meters large (1:500 scale) and 15 meters × 15 meters large (1:400 scale), considering real airports of about 6 km × 6 km, and all extremely realistic. Masterpieces beyond my imagination.
