California One is the third state flag to make its way onto a Southwest Airlines fuselage back in August of 1995. There are twelve of these special aircraft and these liveries have survived across many aircraft types through the years. The first round of jets back in the 1990s used Boeing 737-300s, a workhorse in Southwest’s fleet at the time. N609SW wore its California One scheme shown here from 1995 at delivery until late 2002/early 2003 when the tail was updated with the new at the time Canyon Blue scheme. That puts this great little model at a roughly 7 year span. California One has lived on a 737-300, -700, and now lives on a 737-800. When it is phased out it will more than likely be placed onto a 737 Max 8 as many others have done. Panda Models has a great 737-300 mold and I wish they used it a little more. It isn’t without its minor flaws but it’s miles ahead of anyone else in the 400 scale market.
