Is this the norm from waffle-collectibles?

Worst is that I bought it directly from the store. Not even ebay. I don't think he could do that there since ebay does have some sort of customer protection.

Y i k e s…. I would reach out in that case if you’re comfortable. Seems like you have a 50/50 shot of a decent to good experience to at least get store credit back or something. Worst case you get told to F off and you swallow your own tears it seems.

The second option is the likely outcome. I think I'd rather skip straight to swallowing tears. Besides he does mention that scratched or dent sales are final. So trying to play with his morals is a waste of time.

Sorry friend, I hope they don’t put you in too much of a hole then…Good luck in the future!

Fortunately it wasn't much. I'll cannibalize whatever spare are still usable. It's more about the morals of selling something like this and knowing that any complaint will be greeted with an insult.

I normally try to avoid buying from waffle. But sometimes the prices are too good for certain models. A few days ago I tried my luck with the damaged models. Most of them can be fixed, used as donors for customs or simply cannibalize for spare parts for a low price.

But what I got was two models dying of zinc rot. It's one thing to say the model is scratched or dent as he calls them. Another is to sell a product knowing what zinc rot does to a model.

So be careful and avoid getting robbed by this guy if at all necessary. Pure luck with him I guess.
Be expected to get something like you posted or worst if you think you are really getting a good deal from him. There's always a trade off because whatever you are paying most likely will turn into piece of $hit that you don't want to see.

I had a bit of a bitter experience with Waffle recently. I bought a 1:500 model that was part of a set and came with no box and the cradle ripped from its other half.

I know Waffle does this with sets. However, I was unaware that this was going to be the case with the model in question. No mention on the listing that this was a "no box" item.

I had not realized how messed up this practice of his is... He is destroying a collectible, I can picture him just tossing the boxes of twin sets in the trash like nothing is happening. Anyway, I'm sure there are people happy to buy only one model from a twin set, but at least list the model as such.

He's got so many areas that he could improve on. Oh well...

I was digging out some ancient model photos, so while I have the USB plugged in I decided to share this:

This was my second 1:400 online purchase in February 2009. The first one was the Viasa Convair you see in the background, both from Waffle (AirParadigm). The Pan Am Cargo 747 and TWA MD-80 (1:250) were purchased locally when diecast models were available in stores in the Houston area. You can see the right engine of a JAL 787 by Herpa, an early gift from my wife's family (she didn't have that title then).

The Aeromexico 777 and KLM DC-10 must have been from a collection sale as both models had been in the market for several years by then.

Besides the detached stabs, I recall the model had several scratches. I was new to internet shopping, and I straight up felt scammed (🤣) I wrote him more than one email within 5 days and eventually ended up calling him (can't remember how I found his number). He was calm and issued a return label. In later years I started to wonder why he didn't rip me a new one like he seems to do with everyone else, I gave him every reason to do so. To this day my relationship with Waffle has been good. I guess I have learned how to deal with him, and what to expect...

Check this out... Shipping costs haven't changed that much though.

I still have all the models in my collection, except the 777, which I returned to Waffle, and the TWA MD-80, which I sold on eBay a few years ago.

The memories...

22 & 25$ for 2 widebodies….oh the times. That final cost is one narrow body model nowadays :(

You sound scary over the phone. 🤣

A short update: I have been banned from bidding on his ebay page now 😅 went to place a bid on a few things that were ending soon and got denied...oh well there goes that bridge I guess lol...

These were also the following messages from the initial dialogue I posted. Perhaps a decent laugh in there somewhere.

Just ignore the guy. Not even worth a dime of your time or energy. No one in the customer service business who actually cares about their customers would ever treat them in this manner. He's in it purely for the money. Losing one or a few customers won't hurt his pockets because he literally cashes in on volume sales that offset any potentially smaller profit margins plus his ridiculous shipping prices. I'm pretty sure shipping two 1:400 737s off a website purchase does NOT cost $18. Volume shippers (e.g. retailers) also get discounts on shipping labels.
