Recently re-discovered some of my old Schabaks - they spent more than 20 years on the attic and I thought I shoot a few of them together with their successors if available. I'm amazed of their still "ok" conditions despite their less than perfect storage...
Some great memories come with these models.

I remember finding the ATA 1011 at a shop after seeing some of the real ones in and out of NUE during Desert Shield/Storm and it always has been one of my favourite airframe/livery combos since those days. I'm so glad both Schabak and NG made this one.

When there was nothing else to do I loved looking up with a telescope to identify what's causing the plenty of contrails. As I grew up under two major airways there was a lot to see and Gulf Air was a very common sight. Of course I had to get me the Schabak version. The model still was in Schabak's blue "Jet Box" but - to my surprise - already came with the new black wheels.
NG's version still is among the finest models in my collection.

Last one for today: Eastern Connies
I don't remember when I bought this one, but would guess it was when I earned my own money which allowed me to speed up collecting getting "one of each mould" - I think there's only roundabout 10 years between these two purchases as I got this AC Connie when it was released almost 20 years ago.

I don't remember when I bought this one, but would guess it was when I earned my own money which allowed me to speed up collecting getting "one of each mould" - I think there's only roundabout 10 years between these two purchases as I got this AC Connie when it was released almost 20 years ago.

Lovely stuff. I've got a massive collection of Schabaks so could do lots of these if I had the time!
 
I still treasure my large Schabak collection. Except for their latest offerings in the early 2000s, which suffer from decal cracking, they stand the test of time.

I knew I had taken pics back then... Negatives seem to be lost but I was able to scan the paper print. Taken with my dad's Pentax SLR for sure. My pocket cam certainly didn't deliver such quality.

I flew on Air Berlin's brand new 737-800 in early June 1998 and it was quite a contrast to the usual -400s. Sure had to get me the Schabak version but it disappointed - and didn't get better over the years.
NG's version is one of the most important and favourited 1/400 in my collection as it brought me back into collecting diecast metal after taking a break for almost a decade.

Without the Mercedes ground service vehicles one could think that this was taken somewhere in the US. This picture was taken just a few month before the Pan Am Express inner German services ended. My first flight in 1989 was on a Pan Am Express ATR42 HAM-TXL (and back to HAM on a 727-200). I have the Pan Am Express ATR42 from Schabak, Herpa and Gemini.

I miss these more “obscure” releases, old NG was something special. Consistent quality, great variety, no gimmicks.

What happened to NG? I'm so disappointed in what they've become. They can't even get their colors right these days... case in point, their Southwest releases.
