Just a little digression.
Today started chemoterapy and, then, radioterapy, for bladder cancer. Just performed surgery. Scared? No, after about 30 years of Emergency Medicine i am not scared because i know that life is also this. Fate? Everything written? Unlucky? I don't know, but my life was full and nice.
Here what i collect:
- 1:500 model airplanes
- 1:400 civil model airplanes
- 1:400 military model airplanes

- 1:700 submarines
- 1:72 military helicopters (especially Vietnam War)
- 1:1250 modern cruise ships (from Scherbak ship models - USA)
- 1:1250 modern military ships
- 1:43 cars
- 1:100 military airplanes.
Examples shared here:
Icon of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) (1:1250)

Crazy? Wasted money? Perhaps, but then, one day, without sympthoms, you wake-up and discover a cancer. Life changes, priorities changes, you don't know if and how long you will live.
Apologize for the digression.

My grandmother unfortunately passed away from cancer just a couple days ago. This reminds me of my grandfather who passed away just a few years earlier. He was obsessed with trains and layouts in the same ways we collect planes and make airports. He would have yearly “train parties” around Christmas time and invite every single friend and family member to stop by, an open and loving invite to all to see each other in person and share in good memories, of course surrounded by many of my grandfathers train layouts of many different scales and levels of detail. The grandkids (especially me) helped him set these up every single year and helped keep the house together while the day went on. The house was packed all day from family of whom I could never remember names of, my cousins friends and extended families, priests and church friends, neighbors, and beyond. I actually have a photo I grabbed from their house just a couple days ago of him in front of one of his displays during the party:

After his death we had to figure out what to do with the train collection. Many of us in the family grabbed trains that meant a lot to us and I have a few on display around the house (I can look at a few while I write this). If you have kids and/or grandkids, it might be worth possibly parting with a few very special aviation items (or even setting some aside for later) can mean the world to them now or down the line. Most of the extra trains and buildings we donated to a local hobby shop my grandfather was very close to. The owner said he would distribute to those who “needed” them and give everything great second hand lives. The train parties ended after his death but the memories live on in many various ways in our family and they were very special to me. Probably why I love this hobby as much as I do…lol
I don’t mean to bring his death up to discourage or bring bad thoughts, but to try and bring a slight positive spin on things. Cancer is hard, I watched my grandmother go from a healthy older woman to a deteriorating person over the course of a few months. It’s been hard on the whole family but we cherish the life she gave to all of us and she and my grandfather will be a very important part of my memories for life. She got up each day looking to live it like it was her last and expelled every last bit of energy into her family as she could. I hope you can do the same for anyone who’s in your life.
I truly wish you the best in this journey. Share as many stories as you can, spend way too much time with family, and don’t let life bring you down too bad. If you disappear from here for a while we will miss you but every contribution you’ve made online showing your vast collection and airports has been amazing to watch. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I don’t mean to speak for the moderators BUT let us know if we can do anything for you here on the forums!![]()
This was beautiful to read. I'm glad you had lovely moments with your grandfather. Sometimes I think this kind of family bonding will become rarer in the next generations. Anyways...

I’m upset I never got this model, super hard to find on the second hand market for a decent price now!
Do we know if they abandon them though? There sporadic and unpredictable release choices could be a logical explanation for no more further releases? Maybe they’re upgrading the mold as the one and only release was a trial run? The same can be said for their 767-400.also quite funny how NG abandoned their 767 moulds![]()
This AA and a blank one were the only B762s they released. What a waste!
