While prices in the West continue to skyrocket there are brands making 400 scale models in China that are better quality than Gemini for less than $25. How do they do it and can it be translated elsewhere? Here I investigate JET Model's new A320s and 737s and look at whether this method could be used elsewhere:

WOW, unit cost from the factory of between 22 and $26 us each..but I also wonder how we can make money 🤣 ...because the price can be lower....(of course, there's a member price + 3 RMB discount). 738 only costs RMB 148, 168 → 148, a saving of $20 (total only need USD 22).

If you shop in China, all models become twice cheaper compered to European prices. the average price that I pay for a model since I started buying in China is little over 30 euros + around 4 euros shipping per model. I buy a lot on Xianyu where price can be less then 20e for a used model in mint condition. European retailers just became useless for me after I had discovered this

That's not quite true. On taobao buying Phoenix, NG, Gemini and Aeroclassics from China doesn't make much sense in my experience (at least not for a UK buyer) - especially when you have to add some expensive shipping on. However for other brands it does make more sense.

That's not really the point I'm making here though. There are good reasons why models in the US and EU cost more, to a degree and I'm not complaining about pricing abroad in that respect. Retailer margins in 400 scale are very low.

These JET releases break the 'model' even in China and potentially open up foreign markets to cheaper models too if someone in those markets had some nous and money - or if someone in China cared more about international markets.

It depends on where you are. in UK, Germany, Netherlands most likely make not much sense, since there are quite a few retailers and domestic shipping is cheap or even free. it does make difference for countries where no retailers due to very small market.

yeah, I know, just mentioned that regular brands can be more affordable if you remove retailers from the chain

yup, as you mentioned in the video there is no European brands. here is Herpa but they release one model in 3 months. I believe there must be a person or company who like models and have money to make a new European brand 😁

You'd have thought so wouldn't you!
I can explaine it only that the European market is very separated. a Greek collector are not much interested in a Portuguese airline and vice versa, but demand in each country are not high enough. this should work only for few airlines like Ryanair. even Lufthansa and KLM narrow bodies might be not so popular across Europe to be produced in the way Jet Models does
