Hi to all. This Is Scandinavia according to wiki:
"Scandinavia is a subregion of northern Europe that most commonly comprises Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, which share strong historical, cultural, and linguistic ties. It may also refer to the Scandinavian Peninsula (which excludes Denmark but includes part of northern Finland). In English usage, the term is also used as a synonym for the Nordic countries. Iceland and the Faroe Islands are sometimes included, due to their ethnolinguistic ties to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Although Finland differs from the other Nordic countries in this respect, some authors consider it Scandinavian because of its economic and cultural similarities".
So, strictly speaking, Scandinavia if formed by Sweden, Denmark and Norway but also Iceland, Finland and Faroe are included.
Iceland is well represented in 1:400 scale with Icelandair, WOW, PLAY and maybe Air Atlanta Icelandic (i am not sure), Finland with Finnair and Air Finland while Atlantic Airways, flying with Airbus A320neo, still does not exist.
I can't explain my deep love for airlines from Scandinavia
Being a charter (leisure) airlines lover i had a special appreciation for SAS when the airline was performing leisure/charter flights to the most important European holiday airports (Salzburg, Funchal...Spain, Greece, Italy, UK) using the workhorses B737-700 and B737-800 (without winglets!) with all three registrations (OY, SE and LN) many years before ex flag carriers discovered the utility of leisure connections, even with charter flights. Only British Airways was following SAS choices putting the B737-400 on charter/leisure routes.
A little digression: British Airways B737-400 was yet another reason for my decision to join 1:400 scale! Asked to Herpa for too many years, a shame It was never produced in 1:500 (i mean BA B737-400 "Union Jack").
So Air Falcon B737-300, Sterling, Braathens, Britannia Nordic, Novair and its L-1011, Air Scandic DC-10, the various JetTime, DAT, Thomas Cook Scandinavia, TUIfly Nordic, Norwegian, Norse, Sunclass, Airseven, Sun Air Scandinavia, Wideroe, Premiair (part of Airtours UK), Malmoe Aviation, BRA - Braathens Aviation and Braathens Regional, Air Greenland from Greenland (part of Denmark) and so on. A plenty of beautiful, especially leisure airlines.
Today the panorama is almost flattened: SAS, Sunclass, DAT, JetTime (third of fourth reincarnation), Air Seven, BRA Regional, TUIfly Nordic, Wideroe, Air Greenland but my love for Scandinavia is even more than before.
I will start with 1:400 airlines from Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
