Hello everyone! Just curious if anyone has any sources on how to acquire boxes and cradles for models that don’t have one. I recently purchased a Aeroclassics Northwest DC-10-40 on EBay and the box wasn’t included in the photo but not mentioned it was absent on the listing. So I was curious just to be sure and the buyer confirmed the original box wasn’t included. I still paid roughly $110 for this model not knowing the box wasn’t included but it’s a very hard to find model at the same time. How would you all feel about this? Can anyone point me in the right direction on how I can acquire a cradle and box for this model?

If there was no mention in the listing that the model did not have a box, you could probably return it for a refund, but you would be losing out on a rare model, it seems.

Boxes are relatively easy to find. I have plenty of blank boxes that fit Aeroclassics DC-10s, the cradles are more challenging. Boxes can be easily flattened out, so extras are sent to retailers regularly for various reasons. Empty cradles usually don't make it out to the wild intentionally.

You can try asking around. The only reason I think someone might have a DC-10 cradle would be that the model was damaged beyond repair, leaving the packaging behind.

Yeah it’s a Northwest DC-10-40 from 2017 N160US so it’s pretty hard to find so I don’t really want to go the refund route if the model is perfect. I just also want a means of safe storage and want to maintain the value of the model. IMG_0573.jpeg

Prairie Diecast has a DC-10 cradle for sale, you might have to get that to at least keep the model safe assuming you did not get even a cradle with the model.

Cradles are difficult to find. I have a few models without boxes, and the best thing in my opinion is to go for a DIY solution. Maybe creating your own box using cardboard is a good option. There are some stores here in my city selling these boxes (specially for people who sell chocolates or candies) and they work perfectly for model airplanes too. However, I use some bubble wrap inside, since there's no cradle.
