Hello everyone,
As a collector, lengthy pre-orders always made me feel uneasy. Stores took payment, and in some cases, more than half a year went by without receiving the goods I had paid for.
But one doesn't have to be very smart to figure out that, on the other hand, manufacturers and retailers love pre-orders.
Some retailers have the ability to charge for a pre-order when items are ready to ship, but many don't. Due to limitations beyond my control, my store is one of those that can only take pre-orders if payment is received up front.
A simple solution for this is a manual pre-order form that customers can use to place a pre-order without having to pay. This will still allow me to gauge the demand for an item and use that info to place orders with the manufacturers.
When the items arrive in stock, I will send out Pay Links so that customers can purchase the items they preordered using any of the payment methods I offer, as well as any discount code/coupon that may apply to the items.
I will try the form out with the latest Patriot 1:400 747 announcement, but in the future I might start using it for other products (JC and InFlight are good candidates with their humongous pre-order lists...)
