2024 was certainly a memorable year in this hobby for a variety of reasons. New manufacturers and moulds have been flying into the scene like crazy so we’ve been seeing more variety in releases lately. Competition is, in my opinion, the fiercest it’s ever been. All of that, though, is a story for another time; here I want to look at the acquisitions I made this year.
I acquired 73 models this year. Breaking down what I bought - 44 GJ, 9 AC, 9 NG, 2 JC, 2 JM, 2 PH, 1 AV400, 1 DW, 1 NM, 1 PM, 1 SMA
Some unique abbreviations:
JM = Jetset Models
NM = Netmodels
My takeaways:
- Obviously, GJ was the biggest addition to the collection. I acquired 20 of their new releases from this year, which is about a fifth of their entire lineup from 2024. Another good chunk of it came from Airliners International and the various older releases I found there. My top GJ model this year has to be the Delta MD-88 Deltaflot.
- It was good to add some new NG’s again — however their releases will need to be an improvement in 2025 to see more purchases from me. What I did get from them this year though was excellent. My personal favorite out of that bunch was the Delta L-1011 Bicentennial sticker.
- JetBlue’s new livery on the A320 fencetips came from Phoenix; I’d been eyeing this one for a while and I was really pleased with how it turned out.
- 3D printed items in 1:400 scale have seen quite the increase from individual retailers following Shapeways’ bankruptcy. Jetset’s Gulfstreams are really nice and I’m looking forward to what they, and other brands like Tarmac Designs and 3D Design Deck, have in 2025.
- Aviation400 lives up to the high expectations. I got my first one (an American 787-9) over the holidays and I love it.
Overall I’m very happy with all the models I bought. This hobby is certainly going to thrive in 2025 and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
