Mould Review - Douglas DC-8 Super 70s

The DC-8 lasted a lot longer in service than the 707 and that was largely because of the re-engining to create the Super 70s. They haven't got a lot of attention in 400 scale but in recent times I've picked up a few more and now own half of the 14 models released. Here's a look at the type in 400 scale:

Gemini really should bring back DC-8-70 releases.

I even had a thread about it a while ago

I currently own two: Emery and Flying Tigers.
They are both lovely, apart from the gears which look quite oversized. The shiny wheelhubs also give me some Phoenix vibes :LOL:
The Flying Tigers also have some oversized gear doors, but others look OK. Your Delta DC-8 have good nose gear doors when compared to the FT.
 
Comprehensive review, as always. I'd like to add that the fuselage of Gemini's DC-8-70 (and maybe the 60) series seems a little... bent.

Found this out myself first-hand a couple of years back when I got a National DC-8-73. From the photos in the review, this issue seems to plague many other models as well.

Images are a bit blurry since I was terrible at taking pictures back then. Was using my phone's camera which shouldn't have any fisheye effect.

I see what you mean, it does look bent.

I guess this was probably due to a very hard landing somewhere. Maybe crews need more training?! 😂😁
One this I also dislike is the position of the engines. In many cases they are inclined upwards

Yeah the QC often isn't great and you're all right I also noticed some fuselage curving on some of these too
 
I have never been a huge fan of Gemini Jets' Super DC-8s because they look so clumsy next to a well-proportioned Aeroclassics DC-8-60 model. But as AC has never got around to make the Super 70 series I have GJ's United DC-8-70 in my collection. And if GJ released a Condor DC-8-70 or a German Cargo I wouldn't be able to resist I guess.
