Any advice on expanding a collection.

Echoing many others, my three cents:
1. Buy used when you can (assuming it's cheaper than new)
2. Focus on a subject (what you've flown, an airport you model)
3. Enjoy what you already have. Sometimes you lose the ebay auction and eventually you'll have a second chance at that release, most likely.
It also doesn't hurt to have a little wiggle room for stuff you find neat and outside your main interest, but don't get too many of them. A manageable scope is key. I have a few things, like a Janet B732 and an Eastern DC-8 in jet delivery, Trans Global 707 (as from the movie Airport), that are outside my scope but some of my favorites in the collection.
