Am I missing something?

Okay, so I just posted this over at DA.C because I figured the older crowd over there might be more sympathetic, but I decided that it might be good to get the next generation's point of view as well. Plus, the crowd at DA.C has the enthusiasm of a goldfish, so it would not surprise me if nobody even bothers to comment over there:

Came across this eBay listing of British Airways 747-400 Landor by GJ. It's G-CIVI from 2013, not G-BNLY.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/11706849172...gAAeSwU8Fpp0W5

Buy it now $59.99. U.S. shipping $14 (reasonable). Good seller. Good item description. It has been sitting on eBay for at least a month, it seems.

Is the Landor-loving generation on the way out? Are people holding out for the new molds (HX, NG)?

This is a very nice model. I am currently working on a comparison between it and the Big Bird version, G-BNLC, and they are very comparable, with pros and cons of each making them equivalent.

I never thought I would come across a sitting duck like this one in this hobby.

As someone who owns this exact Landor release by GJ, as well as a dozen or so of HX’s 747s, I can attest that an upgrade to the HX mould is definitely worth it. I mean I’ll keep my GJ Landor for diorama fleet-building purposes but the HX mould is leagues ahead. The only problem for me is that the BA 747s are exclusive to ARD and I don’t want to pay for the shipping + duties.

If I visit London then I’ll go to ARD and buy all the ARD BA 747s in an heartbeat, and maybe along with the ARD Concordes too. But then again, I don’t plan on visiting London again anytime soon and don’t see myself flying to the UK just to buy several models. Such are the issues with retailer exclusives.

Personally, I’m waiting to see if other brands will commission HX to do another run of the BA 747s (with different registrations of course) Landor, Negus, BOAC, World Tails and Chatham Dockyards too. But I’m guessing ARD must have an exclusivity agreement with HX to prevent that from happening. If someone is in the know then please correct me on this. But assuming if that is true, then we can only count on NG, which is very focused on its home market right now. So not a safe bet either.

I don't think the BA Landor livery is getting less love. I also think that the ARD version has something to do with it. There is also a NG version approved on the wish centre but who knows when NG will get to actually releasing it.

So far, ARD has only announced a 747-200 in the Landor livery. It is reasonable to expect that a -400 will eventually come, and that NG could also step in. But I have reservations. HX production is painfully slow, and NG still seems to be wary of classics, so "bird in hand."

I agree that the Landor livery has not yet lost its shine. The C Model 767 is doing fine. Plus, we are not that old, I'm not even 40 yet. And we still have many active collectors in their 60s and 70s.

Also, remember that just because some releases are exclusive to some retailers, it does not limit them to a specific market. It only means that the retailer controls distribution. You can find ARD models available for retail in the U.S. I have retailed many exclusives.

Thanks for the replies. I see that, indeed, it seems that more people than I thought are monitoring HX and NG closely. This is exactly the reason I asked.

If it were me personally, I'd be holding out for a release on the HX or NG moulds at this point. I still think the Landor livery is better than the current British Airways livery.

I thought ARD did announce a Landor 747-400... my bad. So the only ARD BA 744 on the HX mould is in the Chatham Dockyards livery ? Then the fact that this GJ one is still unsold remains a mystery (at least to me). Unless it is the NG one on the wish centre which is to blame.

Correct. So far no 747-400 Landor on the HX mold. The current ARD batch has not reached The West either BTW.

If I had to choose, I would definitely choose HX. I am indeed waiting for the HX BA 742/744. But there are two problems.

The first problem is that it is an ARD exclusive, which makes it difficult for me to buy, plus the shipping cost is very expensive (although I asked HX if they could release some for sale in China, and they only said "yes," but there has been no other information).
The second issue is production speed. HX has delayed many products. However, this isn't unique to HX; PM and Kylie are also experiencing delays, causing many companies like YY, ARD, CW, Patriot, Geministar, and Z² to postpone new product launches/shipments. It's simply that production speed can't keep up with the surge in orders. All we can do is wait. 😑
About NG....They are still continuing to mass-produce modern aircraft, and have reservations about classic aircraft (←they haven't even released the A340 yet)...so we can only wait for them to change their minds.

Their progress with the A340s are getting ridiculous by this point. The A330’s fuselage and cross section is similar to the A340 in so many ways. Same goes with the wings, too. And the A320 engines-there’s a reason why the -200/300s are nicknamed 5APUs. You might think that it’s easy for NG to fine-tune the A340 moulds and release some models, but no, they don’t want to risk it. The poor sales of older jets such as their Tupolevs is probably a leading cause for the A340 receiving no priority. Such a shame.

Yet NG can find the time to make a fantasy Landor 777-300 smh…..

New stuff sells, most people who buy these things don’t care which aircraft and liveries were iconic 20+ years ago. NPC twins are what folks see today and flashy specials are “cool,” so those fly off the shelves.

I was miffed to see my beloved 2000s wishes consistently get ignored on NG’s website, but it is what it is…
