Jet-X 1:400 British Midland Airways DC-9-32
A classic airline, a classic aircraft model, and a classic brand 😃

The predecessor of British Midland Airways, "Air Schools Limited", was founded in 1938, mainly providing pilot training for the Royal Air Force (RAF). It ceased RAF pilot training in 1953, reorganized into "Derby Aviation" in 1949, and began operations such as passenger and cargo charter services. It was renamed "Derby Airways" in 1959, and after acquiring Mercury Airlines in 1964, it was officially renamed "British Midland Airways". In 1999, Scandinavian Airlines transferred its 20% stake in British Midland Airways to Lufthansa, and British Midland Airways joined Star Alliance in 2000. On April 20, 2012, the International Airlines Group (IAG) acquired British Midland Airways from Lufthansa; on the same day, British Midland Airways withdrew from Star Alliance, and was formally merged into British Airways on October 28, 2012.

The DC-9 is a twin-engine turbofan medium-sized short-to-medium range narrow-body airliner developed by Douglas Aircraft Company (later merged into McDonnell Douglas Corporation). Its design work began in 1962, with its first test flight on February 25, 1965. It obtained the type certificate from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on November 23, 1965, and was delivered for operational service on December 8. Production started in 1965 and ceased in 1982, with a total of 976 units produced and delivered.

Jet-X’s DC-9 model is surprisingly excellent. It has strong mold performance and accurate shaping without unnecessary details. Although it uses a wing box mold due to technical limitations, the joint gaps are very small, making it an outstanding representative of this type of mold. In addition, the air inlet on the vertical stabilizer is well represented, which is indeed quite detailed. At the same time, the details of the livery are properly presented, and the landing gear can roll smoothly. Even in today’s market, it would still be a great product. The only flaw is that the height of the landing gear is not well controlled, making the model slightly "nose-down". However, when compared with the last reference image, the error in length is extremely small.

In conclusion, an excellent model 😋
